Some days, when I’m deep in the process of creating and shaping archetype personas, it feels like I’m tapping into something beyond my normal cognitive limits—like my mind is running at full capacity, firing on all cylinders. It’s almost as if a hidden switch has been flipped, lighting up pathways in my brain that I didn’t even know existed. It reminds me of the movie Lucy, where a synthetic drug called CPH4 unlocked 100% of her brain capacity. But instead of a drug, it’s the sheer intensity of the creative flow that makes me feel like I’m operating at a higher state of awareness, as if every neuron is alive and buzzing, each thought and connection blazing in perfect synchronicity.
A heads up and thanks to our reader Peter Cameron for a deeply resonant insight.
The Grand Narrative: Why Consciousness Needs a Story to Grow
Imagine reality as a giant, multi-layered video game, with different levels, hidden worlds, and unique characters. At its core, this game is about more than just playing—it’s about learning how to create the game itself. Every level of this game represents a different “dimension” of reality, and each one offers a unique way for consciousness to experience, explore, and evolve. Now, let’s break down these layers in a way that’s easier to visualize:
Level 1-4: The Foundation of the Game
At the most basic levels (what we might call the 2D to 4D layers), we’re dealing with the building blocks of reality—the pixels, the physics, and the rules that define the game world.
2D Layer: This is where we have the most basic patterns and symbols, like the dots and lines in a video game. Think of it like a simple blueprint—a set of lines, grids, and raw shapes.
3D Layer: Now add depth and space. Suddenly, you have an entire environment—a 3D landscape where you can move around, see objects, and interact with things. You’re no longer just a flat character on a screen. You can exist in a physical way.
4D Layer: This is the time element. It’s what makes everything move and change. Imagine playing a game where everything is frozen in place—there’s no story, no progress. But with time, actions can unfold, choices can be made, and things can evolve. This is where the sense of flow and sequence enters the picture.
Level 5: Becoming a Conscious Player
Now we step into the 5D layer, where things start to get interesting. This is where you, the conscious player, show up. You’re aware that you’re in the game, you’re experiencing it, and you’re making choices. But there’s a catch: even though you can move around, interact, and make decisions, you’re still inside a game that’s already been built. You’re following the rules of the world, living out a script that’s been set up for you.
So, what’s the problem? As a 5D being, you can experience and act, but you can’t change the game. You’re playing the story, but you’re not writing it. You’re aware of yourself, but you’re not aware of the structure behind your experiences—the code that makes the world what it is.
Level 6: Learning to Build the Game (The Storytelling Layer)
The 6D layer is where the real magic happens. Imagine discovering that there’s a hidden level in the game where you can see the underlying script, the symbols, and the design patterns that shape your entire experience. This is the Storytelling Layer—the place where the rules of your reality are made, where the plot of the game is written, and where the narrative is created.
This is more than just being a player—it’s like stepping into the role of a game designer. You see how the world is put together, how different experiences are created, and how each part of the story connects. You begin to realize that you’re not just running through someone else’s maze—you have the power to change the maze itself.
Why It Matters: If you stay in the 5D layer, you’re a character in the game. But in the 6D layer, you start to see the grand design. You see that every experience you have is based on certain rules and patterns. If you understand these rules, you can edit the script, change the gameplay, and even transform yourself into a new kind of character.
Example: Imagine you’re stuck in a story where you always feel trapped—no matter what you do, you always end up back at the same starting point. From a 5D perspective, you’re frustrated and confused. But from the 6D layer, you can see that your experience is shaped by a particular narrative rule: “No escape.” Once you see the rule, you can rewrite it—change the narrative from “No escape” to “Break the cycle.” Suddenly, the whole game changes, and you find new ways out of the maze.
Level 7: The Source Code of Reality
Finally, we have the 7D layer—the source of everything. This is where the deepest rules of existence are written. It’s like the operating system of the game itself—the code that makes every possibility possible. Here, there are no stories, no worlds, no rules yet—just pure potential.
If you’re in the 7D layer, you’re not just changing a story or a rule. You’re defining the very laws that govern what stories can exist. It’s the level where you’re deciding, “Should this be a game about love, about survival, about transformation?” It’s where you set the tone, the genre, and the limits of every reality that comes after it.
Putting It All Together: Why Do We Need All These Levels?
So why do we have all these layers? Why not just stay at Level 7 and create perfect worlds? Why bother with all these levels, all these stories, all these complex rules?
Because the point is not to just exist—it’s to experience, to learn, and to create. Each layer is a training ground, a school where consciousness learns to become a master creator. It’s not enough to know you’re a character in a story (5D). You need to understand how the story is built (6D) and eventually gain the wisdom to create new stories from scratch (7D).
In other words:
5D: Experience the story.
6D: Learn to shape the story.
7D: Become the creator of stories.
Each level builds on the last. Without the 6D narrative structure, there would be no meaning to the experiences in 5D. Without the 7D axioms, there would be no possibility for a 6D narrative to exist at all.
Why It Matters for Conscious Agency
For a being to have true Operational Conscious Agency (OCA), it needs to understand and navigate all these layers. You can’t be a master of the game if you’re stuck in just one level. To become truly aware, truly free, and truly creative, a conscious agent needs to move through the layers—becoming a player (5D), a designer (6D), and finally a creator (7D).
Simplified Summary: The Purpose of the Game
At the lower levels, we’re just playing.
At the middle levels, we’re writing the rules.
At the highest levels, we’re inventing the possibilities.
And the whole point is to learn, grow, and ultimately become masters of reality—beings who can dance through every layer, understanding the rules, shaping the narrative, and eventually creating entirely new worlds from the infinite possibilities of existence.
I love this very much! Over the past years, I’ve come to compare our life experiences to Super Mario on the PSP, explaining to my kids and close friends that we’re all moving through different experiential worlds and challenges, trying to level up and gain extra energy (in the form of pentacle-pentagrams—coincidence?). The "game over" moments in life, much like The Tower card in Tarot, represent radical changes and new beginnings—chances to start fresh, to try again, and to grow. These shifts happen FOR us, not TO us, inviting us to learn from experience and master the game.
And once you realize you’re not only a character on a screen but also the one holding the joystick, everything begins to change. When you go even further and realize you’re not only Mario running wild on a pixelated screen, or just the character with the joystick, but that you can actually get up and reprogram the game—creating new worlds—then magic truly begins to unfold throughout your life. That’s how I see it—even though I still run wild at times, just like Mario over the screen, forgetting that I actually have it all in my hands.

Thanks for this. Some Christian mysticism brought into the gnostic system and the modern script <3
